Laura M. Mons

Laura Mons is involved with every facet of personal and family law. She quickly analyses and probes legally complex matters. Laura ensures that her clients have a solid understanding of their legal situation and of the possible routes they can explore. She represents her clients’ interests as effectively as possible.

Laura graduated from VU University Amsterdam in 2010 in Private Law, with the emphasis on personal and family law. In 2011, she completed a second Master’s degree at the University of Amsterdam. She has been a lawyer since 2012, and a mediator since 2018. From 2012 to 2021, she worked as a lawyer in family law at a firm in Haarlem. She made the move to SmeetsGijbels on 1 February 2021. In the spring of 2023 she completed the Specialised Training in International Private Law of the ‘Nederlandse Vereniging Familie- en erfrecht Advocaten Scheidingsmediators’ (vFAS) with honours.

In 2022 Laura published an article in the magazine Recht en Praktijk (REP) about how savings of children must be included in divorce proceedings. At the start of 2023 the first six episodes of the International Family Law Podcast were released, Laura created together with Stuart Clark at Raydon Sollicitors in St. Albans, United Kingdom.

Laura is a member of the ‘Nederlandse vereniging Familie- en erfrecht Advocaten Scheidingsmediators’ (vFAS).

Laura Mons has a listing in the Netherlands Bar register for the following principal and secondary fields of law:

  • Personal and family law (divorce, maintenance, visitation rights, mediation, youth protection law, parentage, and legitimation)

A condition of her registration is that, every calendar year, she is required to obtain ten study credits for each of the main fields of law for which she is listed, in accordance with the standards of the Netherlands Bar.
