Lonneke S. Timmermans
In her practice, Lonneke mainly assists business owners and those practising an independent profession (lawyers, civil-law notaries, accountants and medical specialists) or their spouses during their divorce. She is a recognised expert in complex maintenance issues and the settlement of non-marriage relationships (‘cohabitees’) as well as in the field of relocation cases and (changes to) care arrangements. Lonneke operates as a lawyer, divorce mediator and collaborative lawyers.
She completed her studies of Dutch law at the Catholic University of Brabant in Tilburg in 1999. During her studies, she studied in both England and Germany. Following her graduation, she first worked as a senior judicial clerk at the District Court in 's Hertogenbosch and the Court of Appeal in Amsterdam for a year. She has been working in the legal profession since 2001. On 1 January 2001 she joined Rassers Advocaten in Breda, where she fully specialised in the law of persons and family law. On 1 August 2004, she moved to AKD Prinsen Van Wijmen, where she worked in the Law of Persons and Family Law section until she joined SmeetsGijbels on 1 February 2007. In 2009, she co-founded the SmeetsGijbels branch in Amsterdam, expanding it over the course of the years. On 1 July 2011, she was appointed partner/shareholder of SmeetsGijbels. Lonneke is a member of the Association of Family Lawyers and Divorce Mediators (vFAS) and is also a board member for this professional association. In addition, she is a member of the Collaborative Divorce Holland Association (VCDH). In her area of expertise she gives courses to lawyers and lectures to accountants and tax consultants. She is also affiliated to Relatierecht en Praktijk (REP) magazine as an editor. Furthermore, she regularly writes publications about family law.
