Wendy A. van der Stroom-Willemsen
Wendy van der Stroom has a highly varied practice and has gained a lot of experience over the years in, particularly, difficult child cases such as custody and access issues, preparing parenting plans, (international) relocation cases, parentage cases and international child abduction cases. Wendy handles a lot of cases with international aspects. She regularly assists expats in cases of a cross-border nature. She is one of the 12 lawyer Cross Border Mediators in the Netherlands who mediate in international child cases on the instruction of the International Child Abduction Centre (IKO), the court or the parties.
Wendy graduated from Erasmus University Rotterdam in 1990, and after a general study programme only worked in the fields of the law of persons and family law, first at AKD Prinsen van Wijmen and later as part of the Private Clients section at the renowned NautaDutilh firm. As a partner and founder of the firm, she has been part of SmeetsGijbels from the beginning.
In addition to running her practice, Wendy has given several workshops and courses in the fields of prenuptial agreements and preparing maintenance calculations, among other things. She was also a lecturer for the study programme for starting lawyers in the field of family law for the Netherlands Bar Association (NOvA).
She is a board member for the International Legal Institute in The Hague; she is a board member for the International Parental Child Abduction Support Foundation (IPCAS) and a board member for the Stichting Steunfonds Jeugdbescherming Rotterdam (Child Protection Support Foundation). She also takes part in court consultations of the family unit in the court district of Rotterdam, and in her capacity as volunteer, she is active for Voorleesexpres and is currently president of her service club. She is a member of the International Child Abduction Lawyers Association and Reunite. In addition, she has been involved in legislation committees in the fields of parentage and international child abduction, among other things.
